SUMMARY:Social Action Speaker Lunch: Providing Resources to Empower the Unhoused in MetroWest
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited for our monthly free lunch at noon at the Unitarian Universalist Society\, 1326 Washington Street\, West Newton. Chloe-Rose Crouch will speak about her work as manager of operations at the Community Day Center of Waltham. Many volunteers from Newton support the center’s programs with their time or warm clothing and other needed supplies. The Center provides day shelter and support services to adults who are experiencing homelessness. Each year\, CDCW houses an average of 24 people\, holds 96 substance abuse recovery meetings\, sends approximately 36 people to rehab and detox facilities\, and sleeps 20 people from December-April at their Winter Night Program. \nThey strive to create a safe\, judgment-free culture that is grounded in hospitality\, compassion and mutual respect. They provide refuge and rest for those who need it\, and support services to improve the lives of those in our community who are struggling. They need volunteers to join them as they work together to improve the lives of those who are experiencing homelessness. Whether it be through volunteering your time\, donating goods or funds\, or partnering with them\, you can help to make a difference. They rely on the support of volunteers and donors to provide the help that’s needed for their guests to improve their lives. \nPlease RSVP \nVolunteer to help out

SUMMARY:Over 60s Sponsored Presentation: Philosophical Religion: FUUSN’s Heritage
DESCRIPTION:January 26\, 2025\, 12-1:30 pm\nAlliance Room and Zoom\nLunch bites provided\nPresenter: Arthur Anderson\, JD\, author of The Transcendentalists and the Death and Rebirth of Western Philosophical Religion: Part 1\, Ancient Philosophy as a Religious Way of Life; Part 2\, Abrahamic Religion against Freedom of Thought\nIndependent Researcher\, Teacher \nIn a radical departure from Abrahamic faiths\, the Transcendentalist movement in 19th century Unitarianism saw the locus of religious authority as residing within the individual rather than a religious organization or sacred text. Transcendentalists were greatly influenced by ancient philosophy as a religious way of life which was based on the locus of religious authority within the individual. Arthur will discuss how the freedom of religious thought found at FUUSN and in contemporary UU is rooted in classical philosophical religion or ancient philosophy as a religious way of life. \nThis will be a wonderful opportunity to discuss and learn from Arthur who has an historical perspective providing an illuminating look at history\, our Concord/Boston inspiring figures/FUUSN founders in 1848 and our Unitarian roots. Do join us Sunday\, January 26\, 2025 for this Stimulating Presentation! \nSmall bites for lunch.\nZoom link sent out close to the event. \nInformation re: A. Anderson’ research and work can be found at https://arthur-anderson.com/
