SUMMARY:Memorial Service for Ed Lerner
DESCRIPTION:Long-time FUUSN member Ed Lerner died on Christmas morning at the age of 92\, at the side of Joan\, his wife of 64 years. Ed was an active FUUSN member from the 1970s through the 1990s\, including a term on the Board of Trustees. He and Joan retired to Cape Cod in the late 1990s\, but rejoined FUUSN from their retirement community when Zoom services became available. Ed’s daughters\, Liz Lerner Maclay and current FUUSN member Jenny Lerner\, and granddaughter Siena Lerner-Gill grew up at FUUSN. \nEd’s memorial service will be held at FUUSN on Sunday\, January 5\, at 3:30pm\, with a reception in the Parish Hall to follow. The family invites everyone to attend. Join us on Zoom.

This service is where we recognize our collective transitions of the past year – growing our families through births and adoptions; moving on in our lives through graduations\, new jobs\, retirements\, and geographic relocations; coming into our own truer selves through transgendering; deepening our relationships by joining in marriage; acknowledging the changes in ourselves and relationships through separation and divorce; and remembering those loved ones we have lost through death. Please join us either in person or on Zoom. \n\n\nIf you would like to have one or more life event shared in the order of service at this service\, please complete this form by Oct 20. SUMMARY:Tashlich Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Tashlich is a traditional Jewish ceremony that takes place on the afternoon of Rosh Hashanah to symbolically cast off the negativity of the previous year. The word Tashlich translates to “casting off.” The ceremony is traditionally performed by throwing breadcrumbs or pebbles into a flowing body of water\, such as a river\, lake\, or ocean. \nWe will meet at the Charles River right behind the Watch Factory Lofts\, 185 Crescent Street\, Waltham\, MA. (There is a public parking lot across the street.). We will sing a traditional song\, have private time for reflection\, individually toss our “sins” into the water\, and then regather together for sharing and a traditional round challah with honey to wish each other a sweet year. \nYou don’t need to be from a Jewish background to join. All are welcome\, including children. Instead of breadcrumbs\, please bring a small bag of 10 – 20 nature-friendly elements like small stones\, leaves\, pine needles\, untreated wood chips\, seashells\, or twigs. \nPlease sign up HERE to let Rev. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to bring your favorite furry\, hairy\, feathered\, scaly\, or shelled pet to the Sunday morning service at FUUSN. We will celebrate our kinship with all living creatures in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and share one of his iconic stories of compassion. This will be a service for all generations\, and we encourage you to invite pet-loving friends to join us! \nYou can bring your beloved creatures along or bring a photo of them; we will also offer a memorial for pets who are no longer with us (who can also be represented with a photo). \nDeciding whether to bring your pet or bring a photo? If you can say yes to these things\, please bring ‘em: \n\nI can keep my pet in my physical control (via leash\, carrier\, box etc.) indoors for 45 minutes\nMy pet won’t be overly stressed by the presence of other animals or humans\n\nIf you are someone who is allergic to animals but would like to be present for the service\, we recommend that you wear a mask and sit in the pews near the rear of the sanctuary to limit your exposure.
