SUMMARY:Bending the Arc
DESCRIPTION:Rev. Parisa Parsa \n“I do not pretend to understand the moral universe; the arc is a long one\, my eye reaches but little ways; I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; I can divine it by conscience. And from what I see I am sure it bends toward justice.” \nThese words from Unitarian minister and theologian Theodore Parker in 1853 have taken on new life in their more succinct form paraphrased by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (“The moral arc of the universe is long\, but I believe it bends toward justice.) How do we calculate the curve and complete the figure of the arc\, when so many well-intentioned folks have gone astray? What guides us in the work of creating justice\, and what can keep us humble?

SUMMARY:Ask Me (Almost) Anything - ZOOM ONLY
DESCRIPTION:Curiosity fuels our growth in mind and spirit. This Sunday\, join us on Zoom to explore the joy of questions: in this case\, questions for your interim minister. If you’ve had something you’ve been dying to ask but haven’t found the right moment\, send it ahead of time to parisa@fuusn.org. We’ll also take questions during the service via the Zoom chat. \nPostponed until May 12\, 2024:\n\nDue to the closure of all FUUSN buildings for necessary repairs\, we have rescheduled guest preacher\, Rev. Kevin Peterson. Rev. Peterson is a founder and director of the New Democracy Coalition which focuses on the issues of civic literacy\, civic policy and electoral justice. He is a democracy activist who realizes the connection between addressing racial division as a precondition toward strengthening our democracy on the local and national level. He is an organizer\, writer and public speaker.  He enjoys talking to youth about civic engagement. He delights in his children\, Nigel\, Marcus and Farrell\, and the regular consumption of the delicacies transmitted by his parents\, including sweet potato pie\, and oxtail soup. The Newport Jazz Festival\, West Africa and the Smithsonian National Museum of Black History and Culture in Washington D.C.
