Social Justice Action Presentation: Leadership Development in the Wake of the Recent Election Results
December 1 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Everyone is invited for our monthly free lunch at noon after coffee hour in the Alliance Room (RSVP required). UU Rev. Jo Murphy will speak about her work as executive director of the UU Mass Action organization coordinating with all the UU congregations in Massachusetts. She will emphasize leadership development in the wake of the recent election
results.
UU Mass Action was founded by Lynn Holbein, former Co-Chair of the FUUSN Social Action Council before she moved to North Carolina. Their mission is to organize and mobilize UUs in Massachusetts to confront oppression. They provide pathways towards justice and identify opportunities in which we can live our shared values. They build relationships with congregational leaders and work to develop their leadership and engage them in our statewide campaigns. These are campaigns on climate and economic justice, immigrant justice, housing justice, youth
engagement and more. Every year in April they lead all congregational teams to lobby their state representatives and senators about pending legislation that need sponsorships and support. Rev. Jo worked as a chaplain at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for the past two years, in addition to being a case manager supporting people living with brain injuries. She is a volunteer organizer with the Boston Immigration Justice Accompaniment Network and with the Boston chapter of Standing Up for Racial Justice.
